The enthusiasm was remarkable as over
218 women suited up on February 4, 2006 to participate in this year’s event. The day started off beautifully with a moment of silence in memory of those who have lost their battle with breast cancer before. The ladies then headed off on the trails. This exhilarating event was held at the beautiful Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario. The trails were challenging as each team traveled their designated routes to Kearney Community Centre for lunch and were greeted by Mayor, Cliff Reeds. The Kearney Seniors Group graciously provided the lunch.
The ladies completed the ride of challenging trails in the afternoon arriving back at Deerhurst Resort. The closing ceremonies consisted of group dining, awards, auctions, raffles and speeches. Special speeches were made by breast cancer survivors Joan Wice and also Ms. National Canada, Tracey Guthrie. “The weekend was filled with many emotions in remembering those we lost to breast cancer and those who fight it every day” says Cayley, “It really is quite amazing what these ladies that come out accomplish in the fight against breast cancer”. Stay tuned for details for our 8th annual Snow Run taking place on February 3, 2007
The theme of Snow Run is “women helping women”. The ride is aimed to raise funds to financially assist women diagnosed with breast cancer and create awareness, from pledge forms to draws and auctions, everything done this day is to help women. All proceeds from this 'Run' and all future ‘Kelly Shires Breast Cancer Snow Run’ events, goes to financially assisting women in their fight with breast cancer.
